Soundtrack of My Summer Candidates

Every AvenueEvery Avenue- Shh…Just Go With It

Very infectious debut album. Highlights of the disc are “This One’s A Cheap Shot”, “Where Were You”, and “A Story To Tell Your Friends”.

The Cab

The Cab- Whisper War

Pete Wentz signed this band after listening to one demo, with the barometer of today’s music scene that’s pretty damn good. This debut album is a mix between Maroon 5 and Fall Out Boy. Best song is “One of Those Nights” which I can’t believe is getting mass play on Kiss 106.1

Less Than Jake

Less Than Jake- GNV FLA

Every Summer that Less Than Jake put out a new album it automatically becomes a candidate for Album of the Summer. My 2003 Album of the Summer was Anthem, which was damn near perfect. This album doesn’t appear to have any strong singles, but they brough the horns back!

Forever The Sickest Kids

Forever The Sickest Kids- Underdog Alma Mater

By far the leading candidate, I cannot stop listening to this album. At one point it was in my car for over a week. The repeat value on this disc is incredible. These guys should be a lot bigger than mediocre bands like Metro Station or Boys Like Girls.

Hit The Lights

Hit The Lights- Skip School, Start Fights

My newest candidate (I just bought today) and probably the one I was most excited about hearing. Their first CD “This is a Stickup…” was in heavy rotation a couple years ago. With a new singer and a more refined sound, HTL have made a solid sophomore album.

Saw Wall-E today. Not gonna lie, the little guy is freaking adorable. I was prepared for the movie by reading all the praise and love that movie critics have been giving it. As an overall movie, I would call Wall-E a one trick pony. The only thing that worked for me was Wall-E and Eve’s relationship. Yes many would say that was the main idea of the movie, but I would disagree. The main focus of the story is an environmental statement on the impact humans have on planet Earth.
I left the movie feeling kinda indifferent. I didn’t hate the movie at all. I don’t think it’s the best movie I’ve ever seen. It was just a cute movie. Overall in the Pixar movie history here are my rankings:
Haven’t Seen: Cars & Ratatouille
The Incredibles
Toy Story
Wall-E
Finding Nemo
Toy Story 2
Monsters, Inc.
A Bug’s Life

Movie of the Day:
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Fantastic sequel as long as you turn the movie off at the 1 hr. 44 min. mark. The entire San Diego sequence is just too much to handle.
Fun Fact: Steven Spielberg had to attend an early screening for Swingers in order to give approval for the use of the Jaws theme. There he was so impressed by Vince Vaughn that he offered him a part in this film.

Get Smart…Hit or Miss?

Just saw Get Smart today and was very pleased. I found it to be a solid Summer movie entry with strong laughs and decent action. Steve Carrell is perfect as a new Maxwell Smart. He’s funny and suave as the bumbling agent. I judge most movies I see in theaters with the DVD release; will I buy it? Get Smart is on the fence right now, while it was very much worth seeing the repeat value could be limited. However, the idea of a possible franchise is very appealing.
